Community and Charity

As a mutual, we believe it’s important to give back and support organisations that make a real difference to individuals and families in the UK. This year we have chosen to support two charities, Tibbs Dementia Foundation and Disability Rights UK. You can read more about our chosen charities below.

Our 2018 Charities of the Year

About Tibbs Dementia Foundation

Tibbs Dementia Foundation is a small registered charity based in Bedford which gained Charity status in 2016. It has now grown to provide over 30 regular services, assisting over 300 people every month to have positive experiences and live well with dementia.

They understand that once a person is diagnosed with dementia they can easily become isolated or excluded, making the struggle a lot more difficult. Therefore, their aim is to provide a range of accessible, creative and relevant support services and activities for people living with all stages of dementia and their carers or families within the local community.

This year, we've chosen a local charity to support our local community and celebrate our 50th year in Bedford plus we wanted to help an organisation that was making a real difference!

About Disability Rights UK

Disability Rights is a registered charity which has been developed to deliver equal rights amongst the disabled community. Their aim is to encourage society where everyone can participate equally.  In the past 3 years, the charity has enabled at least 50,000 disabled individuals to have a voice and influence social norms in today’s society.

In 2017, DR UK delivered disability awareness training to British Friendly team in order to help us improve our skills understanding, supporting us to put disabled people’s priorities at the heart of our practices. From this point, it was a logical choice for us to support Disability Rights UK in 2018 as both organisations have mutual interests and we want to help raise awareness of how disability affects people in the workforce.

Christopher's Smile

From May 2016 until December 2017 we chose to sponsor Christopher's Smile, a small charity which funds research and treatment for children diagnosed with brain tumours. Through various initiatives and fundraising efforts we managed to raise over £4,000 for the charity in addition to helping them exceed their 'Big Give' donation target in December 2016.
